basic services

Boarding
We offer both day board & overnight boarding on a reservation-only basis. Our kennel space is limited, with fewer dogs ensuring that your dog gets the best care possible. All boarding includes feeding 2x a day, daily exercise, and optional training additions while you are away. We can accommodate short term and long term boarding needs.

Lay Up
Our lay up services include daily, controlled exercise acceptable for the level of movement each dog is permitted to do. We provide comfortable kennels and neurological stimulation to keep dogs happy and healthy while they are in recovery. Lay up services include medication administration, and any/all instructions to maintain compliance with veterinary recommendations for recovery.

Obedience
Our obedience training can cater to the needs of any dog and their owner. We include all of the basic commands, plus added socialization in various environments allowing for maximum exposure to new situations and experiences. Proper, adequate socialization makes for a well rounded dog who is less likely to act out or have confrontations with other dogs.

gun dog services

Gun Dog Head Start
Age: 12 weeks to 6 months
Duration: Min. 1 month from 3 to 6 months old
The objective of our gun dog head start program is to take the young dog and teach them all of the necessary skills to be a good house dog, as well as to give them a solid head start on hunting and field work. This program includes the following:
– house/potty training; crate training; in-home behavior work; socialization; introduction to birds; introduction to water; introduction to bumpers/retrieving; basic commands: sit, here; plus age dependent additional skills: down, stay, place work, introduction to gunfire, etc.

Gun Dog Elementary
Age: 6 months to 12 months
Duration: Min. 2 months from 6 to 12 months old
The gun dog elementary program includes all aspects of the head start program plus further socialization; water time; field time; breed-dependent field training & scenarios; and additional age-dependent tasks and scenarios that coincide with being a solid field and house dog.

Gun Dog Foundation
Age: 16 weeks until 1 year
Duration: 7 months
We obtain your puppy at 16 weeks of age and put them through our head start program in its entirety, until your dog is 6 months old. At 6 months, you have the option to have your dog home for at least 1 week, and a minimum of 3 weeks. This time at home is recommended to continue to further your bond with the dog, and to provide additional socialization in the dog’s home environment. If the dog is not sent home, they remain with us enjoying some light work and plenty of exercise. When your puppy returns to BDK, they then are put through the gun dog elementary program. Your dog will come home to you either when they turn 1, or when they achieve a solid “started gun dog” status (up to 16 months of age).

farm dog program

Farm Dog Program
Age: 16 weeks to 6 months (initial introduction)
Duration: one month minimum; up to 6 months
We are unique beyond our gun dog programs in that we also offer a farm dog program. All clients interested in putting their dog through the farm dog program must first have their dog evaluated here, on-farm, to determine safety and potential risk factors for each dog. Once admitted, your dog will begin learning the ins and outs of being a good farm dog. This includes frequent outdoor time, socialization with both people and animals, noise exposure, and if desired some farm specific tasks such as ratting, tracking, blood trailing, etc.

other services

Tune Ups
We are happy to bring your dog in and work with them to get them back in shape, more obedient, and ready to hit the field or hunt test. Let us know what you need and we will be happy to accommodate!

Whelping
We have experience with whelping multiple litters, and maintain relationships with our excellent local veterinary hospital, as well as the UGA Veterinary program to cover the needs of pregnant and nursing bitches. Our whelping area is separate from our main kennel space and is equipped with motion-detection cameras, climate control, and a designated whelping space. We provide boarding and care for females and their puppies on a weekly basis from a minimum of 2 weeks of age (if they are whelped here ONLY) through weaning between 8-12 weeks. Pricing is per puppy, with costs of food, medication, whelping, pup-raising, veterinary visits, etc. added to the initial base price of boarding.

Handling
We are more than willing to handle your dog in multiple events held by UKC/HRC, AKC, and NAVHDA. All registration & entry fees, plus any necessary hotel lodging is paid by the owner. We charge a flat fee, plus a gas fee depending on time and distance traveled.

Training Days
We are looking forward to starting to be able to offer training days at our facility. Training day attendance is $25, plus cost of birds. We will use the entire facility and incorporate both land and water work when applicable and necessary.

training requirements

We require the following prior to a dog being admitted into our training program(s):

  • Inoculations:
    • Parvo
    • Distemper
    • Rabies
    • Lepto
    • Bordatella
    • Brucellosis (if arriving for breeding services)
  • Preventives
    • Heartworm
    • Flea & tick
    • Deworming
      • If your dog comes to us not on any preventives, we reserve the right to treat them as necessary for fleas/ticks and worms – the cost of treatments will be added to the training costs
  • No females in heat
    • If female comes into heat while in our program, we will charge an additional day fee ($2) until she is out of heat
  • No aggressive dogs
    • We do not work with aggressive dogs, neither human nor animal/canine aggression; we will not admit aggressive dogs into our program and will terminate any training attempted on a dog that was not disclosed as aggressive prior to entering our program
  • Microchip
    • Microchips aren’t required, however we highly recommend them as accidents do happen and microchips allow dogs to be returned to their owners much more successfully than just a collar and tags
  • Food
    • If your dog will be with us for 2 months or less, OR you would like to have the food shipped to us on a recurring basis, your dog can remain on your food of choice (leave food with the dog at drop off)
    • If your dog will be with us for more than 2 months and you are unable to provide us with their normal food, we will switch your dog onto our food based on your dogs dietary needs
  • Signed liability waiver & emergency info form
